A Nine Part Study
1 Thessalonians
Now
Ever feel as though your faith has gone dry? That you are withering on the vine rather than flourishing in His service? Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians is perfect for such a feeling.
With a strong focus on Jesus’ return it provides water for those who are thirsty today, spurring us on in conviction of our expectant hope, even in the midst of suffering or uncertainty.
Paul’s prayer is that from this conviction, we will increase and abound in love for one another and for all.
Then
Impressed by the faithfulness of the Thessalonians in the face of persecution, Paul wrote to encourage the Christians in that community with the goal that they would continue to grow in godliness.
Paul knew that the people had been exposed to errant teaching from those in opposition to the way of Jesus Christ and the grace of God. And Paul also understood that unless the young church continued to mature in its faith, the danger would only increase over time.
This is a pastor and evangelist who is separate from his congregation but fully in touch with how they are. Yearning to see them, he seeks to encourage them as they have encouraged him.
